Portable Network Graphics
PNG is a raster file format that uses lossless data compression. It was invented as an improvement, non patented replacement for GIF. PNG supports palette based images, grayscale images. PNG working group designed the best format for transferring images on the internet, not for professional quality prints graphics. PNG was published as informational RFC 2083 in March 1997
GIF
Graphics Interchange Format
GIF is a format of image sequences. It is a popular format in graphics. Capable of storing compressed data without loss of quality in the format of not more than 256 colors. GIF format was developed in 1987 (GIF87a) by a company named CompuServe for transferring raster images over networks. In 1989, the format has been modified (GIF89a), later added support transparency and animation.
